Lyrically, resembling a monologue of frustration, the song addresses a feeling of always being the one to make the first move in a friendship or partnership. Of not wanting to be the only person doing the chasing, whilst also recognising that this may be the result of personal choices and the comfort of following patterns of behaviour that feel difficult to break.
lyrics
Why’s everything gotta be one sided
I used to get excited talking with you
The nights have aged us
Silence takes its throne
And I realize in the darkness
You leave me alone
You never the first to pick up the phone
To call, to share, to laugh, to check
I’m okay, I’m okay
Waiting for you to make the first move
Waiting for you to make the first move
Waiting for you to make the first move so go on, so go on
With a gun that’s fully loaded and a thirst to fire
Little moments of sorrow feed the fight
With excuses positioned carefully constructing
Your get out card, I lose track of time
Waiting for you to make the first move
Waiting for you to make the first move
Waiting for you to make the first move so go on, so go on
I guess I could wait another day
I guess I could wait in vain
With bullets safely lodged and the blame thrown to the gods
With little or nothing in return
Guilt stains your eyes
A game of pity scores
And I realise in the darkness
There’s no place like home
Waiting for you to make the first move
Waiting for you to make the first move
Waiting for you to make the first move so go on, so go on
Don’t Keep Me Waiting (Waiting for you to make the first move)

Love the complexity of this track and the rising and falling of the violins, and the texture. Makes me want to dance.
Thank you so much for this album. I really love it, and find it really inspiring my own work on the Witchcraft Trials ❤️ tararosehip
